Summary
A method using a catalyst which is amplified by a magnetic field
The present invention describes a catalyst which is influenced by a changing magnetic field. The magnetic particles of a catalyst are mixed by an alternating magnetic field in motion, thereby increasing the interfacial contacts of different particles. This allows molecules, that activate themselves by adsorption on the surfaces and adhere as an intermediate molecule, to be adopted by other catalytic groups. Additional charge carriers are shifted cyclically in the particles.
The catalyst is located in a reactor (1), comprising an inner catalyst chamber (3). The inner catalyst chamber is surrounded by an electrical coil (2). The electrical coil produces an alternating magnetic field, which flows through the catalyst area, when the electric current changes in direction and magnitude in the coil.
By changing the magnetic field, the magnetically active particles are moved in the catalyst, whereby the adsorbing surfaces of the various components touch each other. It is thereby achieved that the intermediate products are contacted to the surfaces of the catalyst particles from the second or third catalyst elements and hence secondary reactions can be better realized.
The invention is applied to catalysts which consist of several components, where the catalytic activity is based primarily by physical and chemical absorbtion at the surfaces. Whereby at least one component have a magnetic property and is reactive to an external magnetic field. Alternatively, magnetic components can be mixed, which behave chemically neutral.
An example, where the application might be appied, is a nickel-gallium catalyst as used for the production of methanol from carbon dioxide and hydrogen or it may be applied to improve the copper/zinc oxide/aluminum oxide catalyst which are used for the production of hydrocarbons.
