Frontier Applied Sciences (FAS)technology, FASForm™ is a continuous, high volume process that partially pyrolyzes coal, or other high carbon materials such as oil sands and waste plastics, in a moderate temperature, low pressure regime to produce a clean, solid fuel for use in existing and new power and steam plants, and by-product transportation fuel precursors such as naphtha, diesel, kerosene and LPGs. Land use is small, permitting requirements minimal, and total water usage per energy unit is actually reduced. Unlike most environmental technologies, however, it is not just a new cost burden to solve a problem of uncertain magnitude. It is a profitable undertaking due the large amounts of low cost transportation fuels and fuel gas that are generated as by-products. In the Southwest US, A 12,000 short ton of raw coal per day plant can produce a clean fuel that generates 800-1000 MWe.
